Amateur News
Hi Everyone,
It has already been a long hot summer and it is just getting started. Since I wrote last, we have had several shows in Harriman and Murfreesboro. It was great seeing folks in Murfreesboro that I hadn't seen in some time like Dan and Lynn Riegle, Glenda King, Sara Cook, and Ellen Williams. Everyone seemed to have a great time and I think that was the first show I've attended in Murfreesboro where it didn't rain cats and dogs.
The Dogwood just wrapped up and we crowned two new queens for TQHA. Jennifer Zurvas will represent TAQHA, and Erica Morgan will represent TQHA at the Congress this year. Both young ladies did a great job and I feel like we will be well represented. A very special thank you to Pat Kress for all her work in making temporary sashes for the contest (which were beautiful) while working the show and to Mary Wigginton for purchasing temporary crowns. Thanks to Jennifer McGrath, Scarlett Jones, and Randy Woodell for your help in the interview section of the queen contest and thank you Scarlett for all your help. I have included a picture of our new queens.
If you were at the Dogwood, you know the fun classes were interrupted with a bomb scare. I was announcing at the time and I don't think anyone believed me (wonder why) when I instructed everyone to leave the arena and the barn. It was interesting that Roping was going on under the covered pen, but no one stopped that part of the show. I guess they figured if a bomb blew, it would miss them under there. Everyone mingled in the gravel area or up at the outside pen until the bomb dogs made their way through the barn. The youth managed to complete their Pie in the Face contest outside and they had plenty of folks bidding to help make sure their favorite person got a pie in the face. Rusty Rea's pie about flew off his face as he chased Kelly Woodell around the parking lot trying to share his pie with her after she decked him with it. Rusty now knows not to chase a teenager with boots on. Kyle Hughes wore his pie with grace after Dee Freeland smeared him good. Everyone had a good time while waiting on the bomb dogs.
As everyone knows, Barbara Fisher broke her leg at the airport on her way to Dallas for a meeting with the AQHA. Keep Barbara in your prayers for a quick recovery. She just got over a knee replacement, now this!
The Country Music show is coming up and we have our Amateur dinner that we put on for everyone. The show has changed this year to a four day show, triple judged, so we won't have the time to get ready that we normally do. The dinner will be on Friday night so any help will be greatly appreciated. We will also be doing our fundraiser with the "Challenge your trainer to ride a Reiner" and we are going to try "Can your trainer hack it" if we can get enough hack horses, plus there will be the egg & spoon contest and a boot race, so everyone needs to plan on having a great time.
Hope everyone is getting the points they need. Remember, you must have a copy of your entry to the world show and the events that you have worked to me by September 30 to be eligible for the Amateur Incentive Fund.
Stay cool and God bless.
Rose
