New for 2025: Kimes Ranch Competition Award Fund Boosts Youth Incentives at AQHYA World

Big news for youth competitors heading to the 2025 AQHYA World Championship Show—there’s now more than glory and trophies at stake. Thanks to the newly announced Kimes Ranch Competition Award Fund, eligible exhibitors in select Level 3 classes and contests will also receive substantial cash awards. It’s one more way AQHA is investing in the future of young horsemen and horsewomen.

What is the Kimes Ranch Competition Award Fund?

This new fund will provide monetary prizes to the top three competitors in every Level 3 finals class, as well as to the top three finishers in select judging contests and public speaking competitions. The fund applies to the following categories:

• Level 3 Finals Classes (All Disciplines)
• 14-18 Individual and Team Judging Contest
• Youth Impromptu and Prepared Speaking Contests

Payout Breakdown

The award amounts are impressive—and will be held until the youth reaches the age of 18, giving them a boost as they head into college or career planning.
• First Place – $5,000
• Second Place – $2,500
• Third Place – $1,500

This structure applies whether a youth wins in a riding class or a non-riding contest like speech or judging, helping highlight the many paths to excellence within AQHA youth programs.

TQHA Member Alyssa Logan Named to Cowgirl Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2025

We are incredibly proud to share that Alyssa Logan, a dedicated TQHA member, has been selected for Cowgirl Magazine’s 30 Under 30 Class of 2025!

Alyssa is a scientist, educator, coach, and accomplished equestrian who is making a major impact in both the academic and equine worlds. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor and Horse Judging Team Coach in the Horse Science Program at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU). In this role, she teaches undergraduate courses, advises graduate students, conducts meaningful research, and coaches the next generation of horse industry leaders.

Her passion lies in bridging academia with the equine industry. With a research focus on exercise training methods that promote healthy performance horses, Alyssa’s work is helping shape more sustainable, thoughtful approaches to horsemanship. She emphasizes hands-on, engaging learning in her classes—an approach that stems from her own roots in 4-H and NRHA competition in southeastern Michigan.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Alyssa is an AQHA and NRHA judge, and she remains active in the show ring, competing in ranch and reining events.

TQHA Member Andrea Rego Honored as a 2025 AQHA Emerging Leader

We are proud to share that Andrea Rego of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was recently honored as one of the 10 recipients of the 2025 AQHA Emerging Leader Award at the AQHA Convention in Las Vegas, held March 28–31.

Presented by the American Quarter Horse Association and Farnam, this award recognizes young adults, ages 21-35, who are excelling in their early careers and making meaningful contributions to the equine industry. Andrea truly exemplifies what it means to be an Emerging Leader.

She currently serves as the Educational Liaison for the Tennessee Stock Horse Association (TNSHA), where she works to expand educational opportunities for riders of all experience levels. As the coach of the MTSU Stock Horse Team and an instructor at Middle Tennessee State University, Andrea is deeply committed to helping equestrians grow their confidence and abilities in ranch horse events.

Her influence extends beyond the classroom and arena—Andrea is also a horse show judge, a competitor, and a welcoming presence in the stock horse community. She is passionate about education, inclusivity, and leadership, and she’s playing a key role in shaping the future of the Quarter Horse industry.

Lucky 7 Youth Fundraisers & Activities

The TQHYA has an exciting lineup of fundraisers and fun events planned for the Lucky Seven Classic! Get ready to compete, cheer, and support the youth association while having a great time.

• Trainer Horsemanship – A fan-favorite returns with a new twist! Cast your votes ($1 = 1 vote) for the trainer you think will win this exciting class. Proceeds will be split, with 25% going to the class winner, 25% to the trainer with the most votes, and 50% benefiting TQHYA. Entry fee is $15—sign up early to start earning those votes!

• Relay Race & Dog Race – Test your speed or your pup’s! Entry is $5 per participant, and sign-ups will be collected by the youth before each race. Get ready for a fun competition—dates to be announced closer to the show.

• Warm-Up Classes – Get prepped for the main classes with warm-up rounds in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Ranch Rail, and Working Hunter Under Saddle. Entry is $5 per class, with sign-ups at the gate or show office.

• Consignment Sale – The TN Paint Horse Club will be hosting a consignment sale during the show, and TQHYA will be accepting donated items to sell on behalf of the youth program. Stay tuned for details on how to donate. Special thanks to Jerry Allen for his generous contributions that inspired this fundraiser.

Spring Celebration Circuit Recap

The Spring Celebration Circuit in Harriman was a fantastic start to the show season! We saw impressive performances, great sportsmanship, and strong entries across multiple classes.

One of the most exciting highlights was the huge number of Ranch Riding and Versatility Ranch Horse exhibitors, bringing incredible energy and talent to the event. It was fantastic to see so many new faces and new members joining us in these growing divisions. We look forward to seeing this momentum continue throughout the season.

The TQHA Amateur Association also added to the camaraderie of the show by hosting Amateur Hour, a special gathering where amateur exhibitors enjoyed barn-side snacks and beverages in between classes. It was a fantastic way to connect, share experiences, and welcome new exhibitors into the TQHA family.
